The symposium, entitled “Our Shared Sea – Coastal Archaeological Heritage in the Caribbean Basin” looks at the threat that climate change poses to coastal archaeological sites globally and emphasizes the urgent need for new strategies in public archaeology and cultural resource management.\nThe symposium will highlight how researchers and scientists address universal issues in their own research and global communities. This symposium invites professionals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds to explore how coastal sites are essential for understanding human history and are particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, including sea-level rise, ocean wave height variability, and changing weather patterns.\nIt aims to connect researchers, academics, and cultural resource managers from all over the globe to exchange ideas and practices around preserving coastal cultural heritage threatened by climate change. Discussions will highlight examples of where partnerships and community engagement in public archaeology are essential in making heritage management relevant to a wider population, gathering meaningful data, and building collective resilience in coastal heritage. Teams working in different areas and legal frameworks will collectively discuss how they have been addressing these issues from a variety of perspectives and traditions.\nCommon issues relating to coastal cultural heritage threatened by climate change:\n1) national or regional policies implemented to address coastal cultural heritage threatened by climate change.\n2) the role of scientists and research projects dedicated to coastal cultural heritage threatened by climate change.\n3) the role of mediation actions and structures, as well as communities through citizen and participatory sciences, regional narratives, and decision-making.\nThe program on Friday, June 14th is from 9 am to 5 pm inside the Deering Estate Theater.
