Deering Estate will host a History of Miami Lecture: ART IS IMMORTAL, led by John Bailly, an artist, FIU professor, and public speaker based in France and Miami. He received his MFA from Yale University and is a professor in the FIU Honors College. For over fifteen years, he was the Faculty Director of study abroad to France, Italy, and Spain, annually leading students on academic journeys through Western Europe. Currently, between semesters, he lectures on cruise ships throughout the world, Aruba to Vietnam.

Bailly has earned multiple awards for his art and teaching, including two Excellence in Teaching awards, and being named the inaugural McCormick Fellow Artist-in-Residence at the Deering Estate. “In-Situ”, a 2023 film by Jorge Gonzalez-Graupera about his art and life, won two Emmys.

In this lecture, Professor John W. Bailly, MFA, Yale, will take us on a captivating journey through the timeless and transcendent essence of art. From prehistoric cave paintings to Picasso’s Cubism, by way of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa and Hokusai’s Great Wave, we will explore the enduring narratives that define human creativity. Immortality, anyone?
